Thirsty

I'm REALLY having a tough time with liquids. I just can't seem to get in the amount of fluid that I need. I'm beginning to feel some of discomfort that I was feeling right before I ended with a kidney stone a few months back, so I'm worried. To all of my post-op friends - how do you get all of your fluids in?? I start the day off with the best intentions. I drink my double-scoop protein drink. I get to work and make myself some hot tea - Earl Grey with milk. I drink a cup or so and then the day gets away from me. I'll have some water before lunch.. then I have something to eat. I tell myself that I can't drink after eating.. and then my afternoon is gone and I haven't had anything to drink for hours. I just don't know how to make drinking a bigger priority. Help!

Earl Grey with milk?? You're a lady after my own heart!

I drink tea ALL. DAY. LONG.

I'm afraid I stopped with those "rules" about when I could drink relative to eating a long time ago. I add in the decaf tea with other kinds and I have water-based drinks constantly when I'm at my desk!

I had a water bottle surgically attached to my hand when I had my DS! (LOL)

I seriously try to keep it around all the time so I will try to get more fluid in.

I also love the "Nectar" brand protein drinks. They taste good. My favorite kind right now is the "Twisted Cherry."

Honestly, I have a "bubba keg" that I got from AM/PM. It's 64oz and huga. I fill that in the morning and make myself empty it. I also drink coffee throughout the day and protein so then I've pretty much got it covered. For whatever reason, the fact that the keg keeps it super cold and that I can drink it out of a straw makes it super easy to just drink down. Sometimes I'll drink two of them if I make sure to have it constantly nearby. The other key is Crystal Light (Walmart Brand). I should buy stock in the stuff. I love the peach tea flavor so it's not too much of a chore. Kellogg's also makes protein water packets now that you can just dump in your water and get an extra 5g of protein. If I use those, I double the amount of water they call for, though.

No more kidney stones!!! Drink that water, girl!

Oh, and Nectar. Gag. Sorry. But so much with the gag. I think it's the smell.

I too can't choke down that Nectar stuff to save my life. Watered down crystal light however rocks my world.

I take my water bottle everywhere and play games. Drink at every red light. At the office, drink everytime I switch programs, or finish a project.

Drink during commercial breaks on tv, etc.

It's tough. I also keep a water bottle next to the bed and when I wake tossing and turning I drink then too.

Good luck

I had a problem too -- plus, I just get tired of water. I made a big deal of finding just the right water bottle. I keep it on my desk, in front of my face, where I can use it as a reminder throughout the day. I also never leave my desk without taking a sip first.

I still don't drink 30 mins before or 30 mins after meals; I recently read an article that cits that as one of the top 10 ways to encourage weight re-gain. That being said, I know there are mixed opinions about this topic.

Measured water bottle does it for me. I have a 32oz bottle and make myself drink 2 of those a day. I get up and when I'm driving to the gym in the am it's sip, sip, sip. Sip, sip on the drive home too. Usually one (or most) of the bottles is done then. The other one in the afternoon. I just keep the bottle in my face, and don't leave home without it, I drink in the car alot (just water, lol).

I am also In Lust with crystal lite white tea blueberry. I LOVE that stuff, I try to limit myself to 4 packets a day (in the 16oz bottles of water).

I do follow the no-drinking-after-eating rule pretty faithfuly, but in between meals, I drink. And yes, it took months to make it become a habbit, and it was hard, but it HAS become a habbit now so it's much easier to do without thinking about it too hard.

Drink up!

If I struggle with anything post op, liquid intake it is. As we are approaching the "colder" time of year here in the NE, I find myself more and more so not drinking my water, especially in the afternoon. I just don't want that cold drink on a chilly day. I do like hot tea, but only so much can I deal with in a day...so I'm with you on this issue...and glad to read all the comments...I have now introduced a water jug to my desk, of course now I need to learn to use it faithfully.
